Last Week = GLOW IN THE DARK!!!

So this is it....our last week!

We were super lucky enough to have a very talented maintenance staff member install some awesome black lights into our classroom so the BMS Art students can practice some GLOW IN THE DARK painting over the last few days and they love it!!!!

Here are some pics below to see what the classroom looks like this week...as always follow me on instagram @donovansartroom to see more up to date photos and also check out the hashtag #bmsglows

5th and 6th Graders are learning about the world of Lisa Frank and if anyone is as old as me then you guys will fondly remember her colorful stickers, posters, and trapper keepers :) If you were a kid in the 80's it was all the rage!

7th Graders are working with a drawing technique called blind contour drawing to boost their skills and then turning their sketches into a composition of abstract portraits showing line and movement. We looked at the work by contemporary artist Salventius. Check out his super cool drawings and light paintings at Salventius.com

Starting to wrap things up....

Art Update
I apologize for the long span of time between art posts but with the holidays this quarter time flies and we are so busy in the art room. I am working on getting all grades up to date which should be good to go by the end of the day. Please check Power School this evening if you haven't done so lately so you can see how your BMS art student is doing this quarter.

Late/Incomplete Work
I do have a few students that owe projects and with the quarter ending on January 26th, I ask that all late work be passed in for full credit by Monday 1/22. I will touch base will all students who are missing something so that they can make plans to stay after school with me once or twice over the next few weeks.

Student Work
Like I said we have been so busy! We started working with observation drawing and Betta Fish. Congrats to the winning families that brought home a new pet :) We moved on to Clay and hopefully everyone has seen them as the students were so excited to bring them home before break. We then worked in colored pencil and pastels (6th grade) and moving on to painting! One 7th grade class was also lucky enough to get a lesson in Chinese decorative paper cutting when our visiting students came so I have included though pictures as well....Principal Ryan can be seen being creative in a few pics too!

I have posted lots of pics below so please check them out if you have a second and as always you can follow me on instagram @donovansartroom. (I add images here all of the time).

Quarter 2: Collaborative Art

So my goal this year was to get the kids working collaboratively and have some fun while creating some awesome work to hang up in the school for all to see. I wanted to show off their talent and the quarter 2 kids have plenty of it!

Many compliments have been flying around about this awesome winter mural that just went up this week done by the 5th and 6th grade classes. They worked hard to create a winter wonderland in the hallway and the staff and students love it! They did have a little help from the 7th graders though (Shhh!).

7th graders also did their own thing and worked with letterform design to create a kindness pennant banner to promote #BourneKind. Each student created one pennant to add to the final banner and they were very proud to hang it up to promote kindness at BMS :)

Right now they have also been working with betta fish at every level but we put those projects on hold to get some clay projects rolling this week so they would be home for the holidays. Betta pics to come soon! Congrats to our winning families that were kind enough to welcome a new fun pet to their households!

Quarter 2: Art Class!!!!

Dear Quarter 1 parents: Your students just wrapped up art class and will be missed until next year. They did some amazing work and got many complements form the BMS community. They finished up the quarter with observation drawing and betta fish. I have promised them that the 6 fish will go home after quarter 2 students are done drawing them. They have put their names in a hat for those that would like to try to win a fish. If they win one I will be sure to email home to get the okay for a new pet :)

Dear Quarter 2 parents: Please see note above about the betta fish raffle and Welcome to the BMS art blog!!!! My name is Mrs. Donovan. This is a spot where I like to try to post fun pics of the art that is being created at BMS by your kiddos!  I am hoping to do some fun and wonderful things with your students. First quarter was a success and now we are rolling along smoothly. My goal is to push them creatively and help them come up with ways to problem solve. We are going to work with paint, markers, pencil, clay, and much more. Our class meets every day for a quarter during the year so we are going to work fast and furiously.

This blog is intended to be a space where you can come from time to time to see what is happening in class. Life gets busy and being creative is a fun way to relax and express yourself. On the home page I will put any new updates about our art class that comes up and celebrate some of the student work. I will send emails home periodically to remind you to check out the blog if I need to relay any important information to you. Check out some of the pics below to see what the students just wrapped up quarter 1 with.

You can follow me on instagram @donovansartroom or click here to view. That seems like the easiest way to share some of the fun stuff that is going on in the art room.

Email
My email is jdonovan@bourneps.org and that is the best way to reach me.

Extra Help
My after school day will be every Monday. If anyone feels behind they can stay with me on that day. If that is not a great day, we can try to make another day that will be easy for all. I can't wait to show everyone what these kids do this year!!!
